Sod Installation & Fertilization

Picture
Maintaining a gorgeous landscape in this part of the country is not easy.  We don’t have the lush tropical climate of Florida.  Our landscapes need occasional help from sod and fertilization.  Your personal landscaper can apply partial or full sod installations.  Allow us to inspect your property and consult with you for a final determination.  Fertilization is like an energy boost for your plants.  It’s very similar to taking vitamins to deposit vital minerals into the body.  San Antonio Landscaping, are experts in sod installations and fertilization.  We return to check on our installations and make necessary adjustments to keep them thriving.

What to Expect
If you have a big celebration coming up and want a fresh and verdant lawn for the event, schedule sod installation at least 2 weeks in advance.  The actual installation can be completed in one day.  However, you must allow the sod to root and flourish uninterrupted.  Children and pets should not play on the sod until it has surpassed its infantile stage.  After it is installed, we will set your sprinkler system to irrigate 3 times daily for 2 weeks.  Each sprinkler session should last a total of 45 minutes.  Once this initial stage is complete, you and your guests can enjoy your lawn as you wish.

The Benefits of Sod Installation
Seeded lawns require patience that many people don’t have.  If you don’t have it in you to wait 18 months for a gorgeous lawn, opt for a sod installation.  Although sod is more expensive than seeds, a seeded lawn requires more water.  Think of seeded lawns like a newborn baby.  Infants must be fed every 2 hours while toddlers require 3 meals and a few snacks in between.  Because sod has already matured, it requires less maintenance after the first 2 weeks of installation.  Once a seeded lawn has fully sprouted, the bald spots are apparent.  With careful monitoring, this can be avoided with sod.

Fertilization Identification
The first thing we need to do is identify which areas of your property require fertilization.  Your trees will require a different fertilizer than your grass.  The flowers and vegetables may need a completely different variant.  Just like your eyes, hair, skin and liver all require different minerals to thrive.  Your personal landscaper will walk the property with you to locate areas of concern.  She will inspect the soil, plants and access to sunlight.  To ensure a verdant garden, fertilization should take place biannually.  Spring and the end of fall are the best seasons to initiate a fertilization strategy.

Chemical vs. Organic Fertilizer
When it comes to treating your plants, there are 2 types of fertilizers at our disposal.  We prefer to us organic fertilizers because they mimic the natural decomposition process.  Natural fertilizers enrich the soil.  Plants receive their nutrients from the soil.  Chemical fertilizers are best for potted plants.  They actively work to enrich the plant.  By inspecting your plants and soil, we will be able to better determine what your garden needs.  San Antonio Landscaping considers the client’s needs while creating harmony with nature.  For more information about sod installations and proper fertilization, contact us today.
